Last update: December 2024
1. Data Sources
Main sources used on the platform include:
- TURKSTAT: National greenhouse gas inventories and statistics (annual)
- Ministry of Environment: Official environmental and climate data (annual)
- UNFCCC: International reports and national submissions (annual)
2. Data Processing
2.1 Units and Conversions
Data are standardized to common units for consistent analysis. The main display unit is Mt CO₂e (megaton CO₂ equivalent).
GWP values are based on IPCC AR5 and gas conversions follow that reference.
2.2 Quality Control & Missing Data
- Automated and manual checks are used to ensure data consistency.
- Outliers are reviewed and cross-checked with source data.
- Missing data are flagged; where appropriate, interpolation or modelling is used with methodological notes provided.
3. Visualization
Visualizations used on the platform include:
- Line charts: Time series
- Pie charts: Sectoral shares
- Bar charts: Comparative analyses
Color palettes are chosen for consistency and accessibility (contrast, color-blind friendliness).
4. Limitations
- Data lag: Official statistics are typically published with a 1-2 year delay.
- Uncertainty: Some figures are estimates and carry uncertainty; notes are included where relevant.
- Methodology changes: Changes in official methodology can affect time-series comparability and are documented.
5. Site-specific notes
- Priority is given to official sources when merging data; the platform may keep static JSON backups and database records as fallbacks.
- Some normalization and GHG calculations are performed server-side; SSR summaries are available for search engines.
